Open a photo

Choose a local photo to calculate from its real dimensions and preview a crop. You can also enter pixels manually when you only need a size calculation.

Introduction

Use Choose a photo to open the file picker. Dragging a file onto the photo area provides the same local workflow. Keyboard users can reach the file-picker button without using drag and drop.

The selected image is processed in this browser. PrintLilt does not upload its bytes or filename to an image-processing service. Opening the photo does not overwrite the file on your device.

How it works

After the file is read, check the preview, pixel width, and pixel height. The working dimensions follow the displayed orientation, including supported orientation information in the source. An upright scene and the reported width and height should agree.

Choose the target photo size or enter your own dimensions. Fill the frame previews a crop; Keep the whole photo previews the borders required to preserve the complete image. Read the retained pixels and effective PPI before exporting.

  1. Choose one local image or drop it onto the photo area.
  2. Wait for the image to finish reading.
  3. Check that the scene is upright and the dimensions are plausible.
  4. Choose the target size and compare fill with fit.

Supported files and limits

Static JPEG, PNG, and WebP are supported. Animated PNG and WebP are not accepted as static photos. The file signature and image structure are checked; changing an extension does not turn another file type into a supported image.

The limits are 64 MiB per file, 40,000,000 decoded pixels, and 16,384 pixels along either edge. A file must satisfy all three. The browser can still run out of resources below these ceilings, particularly when other tabs or large images are using memory.

If reading fails

Read the specific error before trying again. A corrupt file, a conflicting declared type, and a resource limit need different remedies. Keep the original and create a separate supported copy in an image editor if necessary; do not repeatedly rename the same unreadable data.

You can continue with manual pixel dimensions for numerical planning. Manual mode does not verify the source, display a real crop, or create a photo export. Reopen the actual image before relying on a composition-sensitive result.
