Sheet dimensions
For an 8 × 10 inch photo, Letter provides a simple single-image layout with different horizontal and vertical margins. Keep the image dimensions fixed when comparing portrait and landscape paper; rotating the sheet should not silently resize the photograph.

A layout at actual size
A portrait 8 × 10 photo centred on portrait Letter leaves 0.25 inch at each side and 0.5 inch above and below. In landscape, the same 10 × 8 image on an 11 × 8.5 sheet leaves 0.5 inch at the sides and 0.25 inch at the top and bottom: 12.7 mm and 6.35 mm respectively.
Margins and printing limits
A4’s 297 mm long edge is longer than Letter’s 279.4 mm edge. A full-page A4 PDF may be reduced or clipped when Letter is selected. Confirm that the PDF and paper settings both say Letter, then choose actual size and inspect the printable area.
The spaces in the example are calculated from the paper and image rectangles. They are not a device-specific margin recommendation. Match the PDF page to the loaded paper and check a physical calibration mark before relying on the final dimensions.
