Sheet dimensions
The extra length does not increase the usable width. A wide photo that fails to fit on Letter may still fail on Legal. Use both dimensions when testing a single image or calculating a repeated grid.
| Measurement | Value |
|---|---|
| Millimetres | 215.9 × 355.6 |
| Centimetres | 21.59 × 35.56 |
| Inches (exact) | 8.5 × 14 |
| Landscape millimetres | 355.6 × 215.9 |
A layout at actual size
A portrait 8 × 12 inch photograph centred on Legal leaves 0.25 inch at each side and one inch above and below. Another option is two 6 × 4 inch landscape frames stacked vertically: with a 0.25-inch gap, the grid is 6 × 8.25 inches, leaving 1.25 inches at the sides and 2.875 inches above and below.
Margins and printing limits
Some printers require a different tray setting or paper support for the longer sheet. The layout tool cannot detect that setup. If Legal is unsupported, do not accept a scaled Letter print as though the photo still has its specified dimensions.
The spaces in the example are calculated from the paper and image rectangles. They are not a device-specific margin recommendation. Match the PDF page to the loaded paper and check a physical calibration mark before relying on the final dimensions.
