Sheet dimensions
A 4 × 6 inch photo is 101.6 × 152.4 mm. Its width is smaller than A6, but its length is 4.4 mm greater. This is a useful case where a familiar product label can hide an important physical difference.
| Measurement | Value |
|---|---|
| Millimetres | 105 × 148 |
| Centimetres | 10.5 × 14.8 |
| Inches (approximately) | 4.1339 × 5.8268 |
| Landscape millimetres | 148 × 105 |
A layout at actual size
If a 2:3 portrait image is kept whole and limited to A6’s full 148 mm height, its width becomes about 98.67 mm. Centred horizontally, it leaves about 3.17 mm at either side. The resulting image is smaller than 4 × 6 inches, and this example has not reserved any top or bottom printer margin.
Margins and printing limits
Reserve the device’s actual margins before fitting an image to a small sheet. If you need a true 4 × 6 print, choose paper that can contain 101.6 × 152.4 mm at the required printable position rather than accepting an unnoticed page-scale reduction.
The spaces in the example are calculated from the paper and image rectangles. They are not a device-specific margin recommendation. Match the PDF page to the loaded paper and check a physical calibration mark before relying on the final dimensions.
